WorkCamp 2010

Date:

June 27-July 3, 2010

Location:

Newton, NC

Not far from the wild mountains of North Carolina is the small town of Newton...where community pride runs deep. Here, people take time to appreciate each other...and to make a stranger feel welcome. This is a place some families have proudly called home for generations.

Yet, over the past twenty years, some alarming changes have come to Newton. Once a thriving furniture, textile, and cable industry area, the people of Newton have seen employers move away...and factories close. Many hard-working citizens have suddenly found themselves without jobs. Younger people have left in search of work - leaving a growing elderly population who often find it difficult to take care of themselves, let alone maintain their homes.

You could make a real difference here. Bring new hope to an elderly woman whose husband has passed away. Break through the despair of a single mother with five children. Bring a smile to a child whose father has been without work for months.

Thank you to the entire St. Francis de Sales community for the financial and prayer support throughout the past year as we prepared for this year's workcamp trip.

Here's what some of last year's campers had to say about the workcamp:

"This year's camp was amazing!"
"Fun camp where we helped people and became closer to God."
"It is the best experience I've ever had"
"Workcamp meant meeting new people and getting a better relationship with friends and God."
"We help people with their houses and a Jesus attitude"
"Serving a Jesus attitude to fix people's houses"
"A chance to work with something much bigger than yourself"
"A miracle!"
"A really changing experience"
"It meant bringing me closer to God and making new friends"
"I had the best crew I've ever had, and it was an amazing feeling to work with 12 other really dedicated people."
"Awesome fellowship, music, discussions, and work"
